Rag - Commonly believed to be an accronym of "Raise And Give" but this is wrong (and some people will kill over this matter!) Several different explantions of the term can be found; from a term to take money from people in a manner similar to begging (i.e. ragamuffin) to helping people from rag to riches. Either way the term is no used to describe charity sections at universities accross the UK and in some other countries.
This site is designed to help volunteers on rag raids, that is a charity collection, whether student, ragabond or enthuasiast, emphasis is on legal collecting and all collectors must know the law (the highlights of which can be found under the "Legal Stuff" page). This site will help the collectors to try different ways to find their best collection style through use of positioning, different phrases, timings, etc.
When raiding it is always worth doing a little research, listening to the experienced collector and taking their advice. However no two collectors are identical, it comes down to the collector. For example collector A stood at the top of Bank's travellator may be able to bring in 2 grand where collector B brings in less. This shows that this spot is better suited to collector A, but collector B may bring in significantly more on the streets of Liverpool.
This site will also aim to gather information about raids, thus being able to assist charities and collectors, for example, a charity t shirt shows the the collector is usually with the charity, but does a t shirt, fancy dress or normal clothes make a difference and if so how much; do stickers help people collecting or do they slow down the collector fiddling around trying to give them away. This data will in the future be collected on this site and be available for analysis so as to assist everyone involved and make a difference in thousands of diffferent charitable causes.
